In The Works For 2010... We are currently working on an Apparatus Housing Ceremony to properly welcome into service our newest additions Tanker 68 & Field 68. We are tentatively planning this event for Saturday May, 8th 2010. The rain date would be the following Saturday May 15th, 2010. The modern day equipment is motorized. Gone are the days of pushing horse drawn apparatus back into the station by hand, simply because the horse drawn apparatus didn't come with reverse. To uphold and honor the traditions of the past, Companies can choose to have an Apparatus Housing Ceremony to welcome their new trucks into service, and have visiting neighboring station uniformed officers gently push the truck into the garage whilst a qualified driver backs the vehicle into the bay. We have chosen as a company to perform this ceremony, and share this experience with our community, friends and families, and our neighboring stations will be invited to attend.
Health Warning For Firefighters Asbestos has been identified as a human carcinogen by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ; any degree of contact will involve some risk. Because it was used for decades, asbestos is found in millions of homes and commercial buildings built before 1980. It’s in the walls, part of the insulation, embedded in concrete. Normally the risk of exposure is small as long as the fibers are not stirred up and released into the air. During a fire or when building materials are crushed or broken, the risk of human exposure rises. This why firefighters run a higher risk of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases. Studies have found that the most dangerous period for asbestos exposure is during the overhaul stage when firefighters have the blaze under control. Often the firefighters remove respiratory protection during this period and the seemingly harmless asbestos fibers can then be inhaled along with many other dangerous chemicals. Asbestos fibers released during the fire and the overhaul stage can settle on equipment and pose a threat weeks later, too. Remember to stay aware of the silent threat of asbestos exposure. The symptoms of mesothelioma include chest pain, difficulty breathing, and a persistent cough. Be sure to mention any lifetime exposure to asbestos when seeing a doctor for these symptoms.
Both NEW Trucks Are Now In Service NEW Tanker 68 is in service as of January 23, 2010. Chief 68 officially placed Field 68 in service with Montgomery County at 12:00PM on November 22, 2009.
Attention Drivers: When you see a vehicle approaching you with blue lights flashing, please yield the right of way to them. That car or truck contains a volunteer Firefighter, Fire Police Officer, or Emergency Medical Services Provider, en-route to a job that pays nothing except the satisfaction of serving our communities by helping to preserve life and limit the loss of property.
